Columbia, SC - The Auburn Equestrian team (2-2, 1-2 SEC) fell shy of victory over the defending National Champion Gamecocks this Saturday with the final score of 1,181-1,237.5.

South Carolina defeated Auburn in both the western (531-546.5) and hunt seat (650-691) sides of the meet.

"We had good rides and some bad rides," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "We made some mental mistakes and couldn't get over them."

In their last meeting, Auburn was hard pressed on the hunt seat end. However, today the hunt seat was on top.

The high scorers for Auburn on the hunt seat were freshman Jenny Reinhart with an 88 on equitation and senior Kelly Gottfried with an 84 over fences.

The high scorers on the western end were sophomore Kimberly Tidwell with a 72 in horsemanship and freshman Ashley Griffith with a 72 in reigning.

The Tigers continue the season on Feb. 25 when they host Baylor University at the Auburn Equine Center at 1 pm.
