ATHENS, Ga. --- The fifth-ranked Auburn women's golf team fired a second round 16-over 304 to move into third place with a 612 total at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the par-72, 6,228-yard University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., Saturday.
The Tigers' 304 was the second lowest score of the day, two shots behind Georgia's 14-over 302.
Junior Nicole Hage carded an even-par 72 and is tied for the lead with Vanderbilt's Chris Brandy and Washington's Amber Prange at 4-over 148.
Senior Maria Martinez fired a 4-over 76 and is tied for 12th at 152. Junior Jessica Lovell is tied for 25th at 77-155 while sophomore Margaret Shirley shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 33rd at 157. Sophomore Abigale Shepperle is tied for 84th at 83-169.
"I thought we had a solid day today," head coach Kim Evans said. "Nicole just continues to play great golf and we will need that again tomorrow. Hopefully we will continue to improve in the final round."
No. 8 Georgia (302-603) leads second place and thirteenth-ranked Wake Forest (310-608) by five shots and Auburn (304-612) by nine shots. No. 12 Vanderbilt (310-615) is in fourth followed by No. 23 Kent State (305-616), Florida State (310-617), No. 25 Washington (309-621), No. 19 Ohio State (307-621), South Carolina (309-626) and Michigan State (312-628) to round out the top-10.
No. 9 Arkansas (309-633) is in 11th followed by Alabama (319-639), Mississippi State (325-645), Oklahoma (328-647), Coastal Carolina (327-647), East Carolina (315-647), Ole Miss (333-657) and Furman (325-659).
Final round action is set to begin Sunday at 8:00 am Central.
