AWENDAW, S.C. --- The Auburn men's golf team ended round one Sunday tied for ninth place after shooting a 12-over 296 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, which is being held at the par-71, 7,229-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
Wake Forest holds the lead with a 9-under 275 in the opening round. Second place South Carolina carded the only other sub-par round with a 5-under 279. North Carolina (288) is in third followed by Central Florida (289), No. 18 Kentucky (292), No. 14 Clemson (293), College of Charleston (293), Florida State (293), Auburn (296) and Augusta State (296) to round out the top-10.
Virginia and Vanderbilt are tied for 11th at 13-over 297 followed by No. 16 North Carolina State (298), No. 22 Alabama (299) and LSU (300).
Senior All-SEC Stuart Moore led the Tigers with a 2-over 73 and is tied for 25th. Junior Andrew Medley and sophomore All-SEC Patton Kizzire both carded 3-over 74s to tie for 30th. True freshman Glenn Northcutt is tied for 41st with a 75 while sophomore Jay Moseley is tied for 65th with a 78.
"We lost five shots on the last three holes, so it was a pretty disappointing day," head coach Mike Griffin said. "There are some great teams in this tournament, so we don't have much room for error. We'll have to play better tomorrow if we want to move up the leaderboard."
South Carolina's Eirik Tage Johansen and Wake Forest's Doug Manchester share the individual lead at 4-under 67.
