BATON ROUGE, La. - The Auburn women's golf team sits in second at 9-over 297 after the first round of the LSU Cleveland Golf Classic held at the par 72, 6,333-yard University Golf Club. Senior Maria Martinez leads the team with a tie for fourth at 72 even.
"We are really pleased with our performance today," head coach Kim Evans said. "Everyone had a solid round for us to build on throughout the tournament."
Virginia leads the pack with a 6-over 294 for the day followed by the Tigers in second, LSU in third carding a 10-over 298 and Kentucky sits in fourth at 15-over 303. Tied for fifth are Augusta State and Mississippi State firing a 16-over 304.
Individually, Martinez is followed by Jessica Lovell, who is tied for 10th firing a 2-over 74, Abigale Schepperle sits in a tie for 17th at 3-over 75, Nicole Hage is tied for 27th at 4-over 76 and Margaret Shirley is in a tie for 35th at 5-over 77. Virginia's Jennie Arseneault leads all individuals with a 2-under 70.
