Gainesville, Fla. - - The Auburn men's tennis team dropped a close match 4-3, Sunday to No. 12 Florida at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla. Although the Tigers secured the doubles point, they were unable to pull through in singles. Auburn slipped to 11-7 overall and 3-5 in the league. Florida moves to 11-6 on the season and 5-3 in Southeastern Conference play.
To start the match off, Robbert Lathouwers and Lukas Marsoun defeated Stefan Tell and Nestor Briceno 8-4. Following suit, and clenching the doubles point, Terence Nugent and Alex Schweizer defeated Chris Brandi and Greg Ouellette 8-5. The third doubles match was dropped by Nick Lane and Pawel Dilaj 8-5, to Vladimor Obradovic and Ryan Sherry.
The first singles finish was at the four spot with Florida's No. 100 Tell defeating Milan Krnjetin 6-0, 6-4. Next, Dilaj fell to Brandi 6-1, 6-3 in the five spot. Then, No. 32 Ouellette defeated Lathouwers in the two spot 6-3, 6-4.
With the score 3-1, Auburn's senior, Lane, came back in his third set to defeat Bricerno 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. However, hope for Auburn was short lived. Although Schweizer won his first set, he was unable to defeat No. 95 Obradovic, who clenched the match for the Gators.
Auburn would earn one more point through freshman Marsoun, leading Sherry when he withdrew.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 7, at the Luther Young Tennis Complex in Auburn. The Tigers will face the Arkansas Razorbacks at 5 p.m.
