FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The 2006 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway Thursday at the University of Arkansas with the first day of the decathlon and heptathlon. Auburn freshman Amelia Anderson is in 10th place after four events of the heptathlon, while the Tiger men did not have a representative in the decathlon.
Anderson scored 2,839 points during the opening day after competing in the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m. Her best showing was in the 200m, where she had the fifth-best time of :25.47.
Anderson enters the second and final day of the heptathlon just 129 points out of eighth place and a chance to score points. Her specialty - the long jump - is one of the final three events, along with the javelin and the 800m.
In addition to the Anderson, several other Auburn athletes will be in action Friday. While most of the action involves prelims, Angela Homan will bid for her third-straight SEC outdoor title in the 10,000m Friday at 8:50 p.m.
