BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - The Auburn women's golf team sits in fourth place after day one of the NCAA East Region held at the par 72, 6,386-yard Champions Course at the Bryan Park Golf Club, after firing a 5-over 293 on the day.

"We didn't have as strong of a round as we had hoped today, but we are still in pretty good position with two days remaining," head coach Kim Evans. "Abigale Schepperle really came through in the end today at 2-under on the back nine and of course, Maria Martinez was solid as always. Tomorrow we need to come out and focus on just that round and take care of our business."

The Tigers finished the day behind leaders LSU and California, who sit at even par. In third is Tennessee at 4-over 292, Auburn sits in fourth at 5-over 293 and Alabama rounds out the top five at 7-over 295. No. 1 seeded Arizona State suffered a tough first round finishing in 15th at 19-over 307.

Martinez and Schepperle lead the Tigers and are tied for 15th overall, both at even par on the day. Junior Jessica Lovell sits in a tie for 24th at 1-over 73 while sophomore Margaret Shirley fired at 4-over 76 for a tie for 50th and junior Nicole Hage carded a 6-over 78 and is tied for 71st.
