Auburn Women Capture 2006 Cougar Invitational

The Auburn women's cross country team won the third annual Cougar Invitational, hosted by Columbus State, while the men finished second on Friday at the Evilsizer Track and Field Complex at Smiths Station High School.

The women collected a team total of 29 points, while CSU garnered 48 points. Troy, which was just a point back with 49, finished in third place while West Alabama took fourth with 105. LaGrange College rounded out the field with 128 points.

On the men's side, Troy took home the team title with 27 points, followed in second by Auburn with 36. Columbus State was third with 65, followed by West Alabama in fourth with104 and LaGrange fifth with 140.

Sophomore Laura Steele finished second in the 3K at 9:53, while fellow junior Becca Bell came in fourth with a time of 10:14. Freshman Amy Shaffer came in sixth with a 10:20 mark, junior Denise Daughenbaugh ran 10:23 to place eighth and Katie Stringellow placed 10th.

Sophomore Chase Oliver was fourth in the 5K at 16:21, followed by Elliot Smith (16:27), Mark Fleming (16:34) and Josh Pawlik (16:44) in the sixth through eighth spots.
