Auburn Men's Golf Finishes 15th In Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The Auburn men's golf team shot an 8-over 296 to finish 15th with a 14-over 878 total in the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club Sunday. Alabama fired an 8-under 280 for a 23-under 841 total to win the title.

Junior Patton Kizzire (71) and sophomore Glenn Northcutt (74) finished tied for 32nd at 1-over 217 to lead the Tigers. Kizzire followed his opening round 75 with two straight sub-par rounds. Senior Andrew Medley (77-222) and junior Jay Moseley (74-222) tied for 54th while junior Gordon Strother (77-226) tied for 71st.

"We weren't able to keep our momentum going from yesterday's round," head coach Mike Griffin said. "We did some good things in the second round, and that gives us something to work with. There will be a short turnaround with the Shoal Creek next week, so we have to be ready to go."

Fourth-ranked Clemson finished in second, six shots behind Alabama, with a 289-847. No. 2 Georgia (281-854) finished third followed by No. 8 Georgia Tech (278-854), No. 14 Florida (287-856), No. 16 Georgia State (284-856), No. 17 Tennessee (288-859), East Tennessee State (281-860), Vanderbilt (278-862), North Carolina State (294-866), No. 9 Wake Forest (290-868), TCU (286-873), No. 12 Duke (291-875), Augusta State (298-876), Auburn (296-878), No. 23 Texas Tech (293-884), South Carolina (287-886) and Texas (292-904).

Georgia's Chris Kirk claimed medalist honors with a final round 5-under 67 for an 11-under 205 total. North Carolina State's Darren Blair (72-206) finished in second followed by Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow (71-208) and Clemson's Ben Martin (70-208) in a tie for third.

The Tigers return to action at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in Birmingham Sept. 25.
