Auburn's Steven Segerlin Takes 3-meter Title at Georgia Diving Invitational; Tiger Men Take Top Three Places

Athens, Ga. - Auburn defending national champion Steven Segerlin continued to dominate the diving events as the senior won the 3-meter on Thursday afternoon with a finals score of 348.10. Newcomers Dan Mazafferro and Kelly Marx completed the Tigers sweep on the event. Sophomore Corey Gerlach earned another runner-up finish, today on 1-meter.

Segerlin entered the 3-meter finals in position to claim his ninth individual event title of the season and did not let up, upping his preliminary score to take the victory. Teammates Mazzaferro (2nd, 345.75) and Marx (3rd, 334.30) improved a combined 81.45 points to complete the Auburn sweep.

On the women's side, Gerlach repeated her second place finish from yesterday with a 1-meter finals score of 265.50. Gerlach entered the finals in third but turned in a 10.95 point increase in the finals. Teammate Emily Griesemer ended up ninth with a season high 227.10.

Also competing for the men were Caleb Dunnichay and Scott Morgan. Dunnichay turned in a 42.15 bettered score in the finals to jump four places to eighth. Morgan entered the finals in ninth and had a better score in the finals, but dropped to 11th.

Competition resumes tomorrow in Athens, Ga., with the men and women's platform competition. Segerlin has a shot at becoming just the second person ever to sweep all three events at the invitational.
