NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It took Auburn (17-9, 4-6 SEC) more than seven minutes to find the bottom of the net Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tenn. During the scoreless streak, Vanderbilt (21-4, 7-3 SEC) netted 16 points to jumpstart an 80-45 runaway win over the Tigers.
"This was one of those days," Auburn head coach Nell Fortner said. "We got off to a cold start and couldn't recover. This team doesn't quit, and I'm proud of the way we continued to play hard."
Vanderbilt's Carla Thomas led all scorers with 15 points. DeWanna Bonner scored 12 points to lead Auburn, and Sherell Hobbs netted 10.
Auburn took only four shots and committed eight turnovers in its first 12 possessions, while Vanderbilt made seven of nine shots to open the game. Auburn finished the game 15-of-45 (33.3 percent) from the field, while the Commodores shot 34-of-58 (58.6 percent). The Tigers were outrebounded 21 to nine in the first half and 40-22 in the game.
The closest Auburn came after the game-opening drought was 12 points at 18-6. The largest Commodore lead was 39 late in the second half.
