TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Auburn men's golf team shot a 1-under 287 including 4-under over the last four holes to win the Seminole Intercollegiate with a 290-288-287--865 at the par-72, 7,041-yard Golden Eagle Country Club Tuesday. The Tigers began the day one shot off the lead and trailed No. 12 North Carolina, No. 24 Florida State and UAB entering the 15th hole before rallying for a five-shot win over the Tar Heels.

"It feels good to get a win," head coach Mike Griffin said. "It was fun for the guys. They have been thinking about trying to win a golf tournament and this was a good place to start. We put ourselves in a good position early."

Glenn Northcutt recorded eight birdies on his way to a 6-under 66 after turning at 31 to move up from 25th to a tie for third with a 73-74-66--213. Patton Kizzire again finished strong with an eagle on the 15th and a birdie on the 18th to also tie for third with a 72-70-70--213.

Jay Moseley tied for 16th with a 73-73-74--220, Gordon Stother tied for 29th with a 72-71-80--223 and Andrew Medley finished 67th with an 80-77-76--233.

"I'm really proud of the rounds we had today," Griffin said. "We struggled at times, but held on and brought it back. Glenn got it out good and kept bringing it in.

"It was an up and down day. You could make a bunch of birdies and you could make a bunch of bogeys. It was pretty nerve-racking watching it go up and down. I am very excited about them gutting it out. It was our first win of the year and it was very encouraging. I am very happy for the guys. They played their hearts out. I am very, very proud of them."

The win is Auburn's first since the 2006 Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate and its first away from Auburn since the 2003 Palencia Invitational.

North Carolina (296-281-293--870) finished second followed by Florida State (300-286-289--875), No. 14 East Tennessee State (302-291-285--878), UAB (295-292-291--878), Virginia (302-292-286--880), Ole Miss (297-289-299--885), LSU (303-293-291--887), Vanderbilt (301-296-292--889), Northwestern (294-290-305--889), Central Florida (299-294-299--892), Mississippi State (290-299-305--894), College of Charleston (293-303-300--896), North Carolina State (304-296-297--897) and Toledo (313-300-307--920).
