The fourth-ranked Auburn women's golf team shot an 11-over par 299 on Friday and finished day one in a tie for fourth place at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, played at the par 72, 6,338-yard University Golf Club in Baton Rouge.
"We weren't as strong today as I had hoped today." Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "Nicole [Hage] had a strong back nine and I was impressed with her improvements since Puerto Rico. We will need to make some adjustments tomorrow if we want to position ourselves to make a run at the title."
The Tigers trail leader Vanderbilt by five strokes (294), followed by Duke and Tennessee tied at second with just a one stroke lead over the Tigers. Auburn is tied with North Carolina and is ahead of SEC foe's Alabama (6th, 301), LSU (8th, 307), South Carolina (11th, 310), Mississippi State (15th, 315), Ole Miss (19th, 325) and Kentucky (21st, 330).
Individually, Nicole Hage shot even par round of 72, after notching three birdie's, and is tied for sixth. Candace Schepperle is in a tie for 13th place after shooting 2-over 74. Marissa Milligan stands in a tie for 21st after carding a 3-over 75, while Abigale Schepperle, competing as an individual, stands in a tie for 32nd after shooting a 5-over 77.
The Lady Puerto Rico Classic Winner, Marina Macias carded a 6-over 78 and is tied for 47th, while Margaret Shirley is tied for 56th with an opening round of 80.
