Baton Rouge, La. -
The No. 4/5 Auburn women's golf team concluded the three-day LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in third place with a final round score of 290. Senior Nicole Hage led all Tiger's with a second place finish, carding a one-under 71 on Sunday.
"We had another good round today as a team and a couple of strong individual performances," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "I'm proud of Nicole (Hage) for the tournament she put together. Unfortunately, it is hard to respond as an individual or a team when someone plays like Duke's Amanda Blumenherst did this weekend."
With the third place finish, the Tigers (299-290-290--879) turned in their ninth top-five finish at the Classic. Top-ranked Duke (298-288-286--872) took the team title after shooting eight-over for the weekend. Vanderbilt grabbed second, finishing six strokes behind the Blue Devils (294-298-286--878).
Hage (72-72-71--215) tied for second with Mississippi State's Amanda Mathis and Tennessee's Marci Turner after finishing one-under for the weekend. The runner up finish tied Hage's all-time best finish as she also tied for second at The Derby.
Marisa Milligan (75-70-73--218) carded a one-over 73 to tie for sixth, while Candace Schepperle (74-73-72--219) tied for eighth at three-over. Mariana Macias (78-75-75--228) rebounded from a first-day 78 to shoot two straight 75's and finish tied for 36th, and Margaret Shirley (80-75-74--229) shot a low round of 74 on Sunday to take 43rd. Abigale Schepperle (77-75-76--228), who played as an individual, tied for 36th at 12-over par.
Duke's Amanda Blumenherst finished the weekend with a record nine-under (68-69-70--207).
Auburn returns to action next weekend at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic played at the par-72 UGA Golf Course in Athens.
