ATHENS, Ga. - - The fourth-ranked Auburn women's golf team carded a 15-over 299 Saturday to remain in the lead after two rounds of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, played at the par 71, 6,260-yard University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens. After shooting a five-over 76 in the second round, junior Margaret Shirley (71-76--147) is the Tiger highest on the leaderboard in a tie for eighth. The low Auburn round of the day came from Abigale Schepperle (75-73--148), who shot a 2-over 73 to move into tie for 12th.
"We had a really tough day but so did the rest of the field," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "We are playing on a new and difficult course but a quality one. We had a few troubles today but I still am seeing some good things. Our goal every tournament is to put ourselves in position to win. We want to be in the last group on the last day."
Auburn (293-299--592) holds a five stroke lead over Arkansas (300-297--597) and a six stroke lead over Florida (300-298--598) with 18 holes to play on Sunday. The top five is rounded out by Wake Forest (307-29--599) and Virginia (303-296--599).
On the individual leaderboard, Nicole Hage (73-75--148) is tied for 12th after shooting a 4-over 75 on Saturday. Marisa Milligan (77-75--152) and Candace Schepperle (74-78--152) are tied for 33rd after rounds of 75 and 78, respectively. Mariana Macias, who is playing as an individual, sits in a tie for 40th at 11-over after shooting a 73 in the second round.
Sunday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT. The Tigers will play the round with Arkansas and Florida.
