Cory Martin Breaks Auburn Hammer Throw Record At Auburn Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. - Cory Martin broke his own school record in the hammer throw and improved his NCAA-leading mark as the Auburn Invitational began with the men's and women's hammer throws Friday at Hutsell-Rosen Track.

Martin became the first collegian to throw the hammer over 70 meters this year, posting a mark of 70.51m (231-04) to win the event. He topped his previous school record of 69.92m (229-5) that he set two weeks ago at the Tiger Track Classic.

Jacob Dunkleberger finished second with a mark of 68.49m (224-8), which is just shy of a meter less than his season-best mark of 69.78m (228-11), which ranks No. 2 in the country behind Martin.

In the women's hammer throw, Tiffany Spry finished fourth with a personal-best mark of 45.69m (149-11).

The rest of the action in the Auburn Invitational takes place Saturday at Hutsell-Rosen Track. Field events start with the women's javelin at 10:30 a.m., while the running events start at 12:30 p.m. with the prelims of the women's 100m hurdles.
