The Auburn women's golf team saved the best for last, shooting a final round 12-over 300 to take seventh in the 18-team Bryan National Collegiate field. Senior Nicole Hage led the third-ranked Tigers team with a 16th place finish after shooting even par today.
"Today was our best day of the three," head coach Kim Evans said. "I was really impressed with how Nicole stepped up and fought her way back after disappointing first and second rounds. Candace also showed poise today and started off well and was able to move up a few spots. We have a lot to work on before the SEC Tournament in two weeks."
Hage blasted off 12 straight 1-under rounds and finished the day an even 72 par to move 19 places from yesterday and tie for 16th. Hage shot a three day 226 (75-79-72--226). Newcomer Candace Schepperle put together seven holes of even par or better to open the day. C. Schepperle finished off the tournament 4-over 76 for 18th (74-77-76--227).
Junior Margaret Shirley carded a 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 32nd (74-82--74--230). Red-shirt freshman Marisa Milligan shot a 6-over 78 to tie for 65th (80-80-87--238), while junior Abigale Schepperle took 70th (78-79-83--240).
No. 15 Purdue won the team battle after shooting 23-over 887 for the tournament (290-303-294--887). The seventh-ranked Gators ended up second (298-294-302--894), while No. 20 North Carolina took third (291-309-297--897).
Purdue's Maria Hernandez (71-73-71--215) took the individual title after winning the third sudden death playoff hole. Florida's Sandra Gal took second (72-74-69--215) to tie while Furman's Blair Lamb (70-76-70--216) rounded out the top three finishers.
Auburn will take a week off from competition before traveling to West Point, Miss., for the SEC Championship on April 20-22 held at Old Waverly.
