TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 2007 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships kicked off Thursday with the opening day of the decathlon and heptathlon at Sam Bailey Stadium on the campus of the University of Alabama.
Auburn had just one competitor taking part in the multi-events, as redshirt freshman Jager Livingston finished the first half of the decathlon in 12th place with 3213 points. Livingston had his best performance in the 400m dash, finishing seventh in 50.96 seconds while winning his heat. Livingston, whose best events come on day two, also finished ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.20m (20-4.25).
"Jager had a solid first day," said head coach Ralph Spry. "He started a little slow but picked up the pace. The 1500m and the javelin will be big events for him tomorrow. He put himself into a position to score some points for us, which would be huge for him as a freshman."
The competition will hit full stride with a full day of events Friday, beginning with the men's hammer throw at 10 a.m. The meet runs through Sunday, May 13.
