Auburn Women's Golf Places Sixth at Mason Rudolph Championship

AUBURN - The Auburn women's golf team shot an even par 288 in the final round of the 2007 Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on Sunday to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place. The 54-hole tournament was played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club on the Ironhorse Course, a par 72, 6,217- yard course.

The Tigers (288-301-288-877) finished the tournament at 13-over, thirteen strokes behind tournament champion UCLA (281-283-287-851). Arizona State (280-293-292-865) came in second at one-over, and Duke (284-292-290-866) finished third after shooting one stroke more than Arizona State. Oklahoma State (292-292-287-871) and Florida (285-299-292-876) followed in fourth and fifth.

Southern California (291-295-291-877) and Arizona (283-300-294-877) finished in the three-way tie for sixth with Auburn.

Freshman Cydney Clanton (71-71-68-210) finished round three with a 4-under 68 and took third place overall in the tournament, leading the Tigers by seven strokes.

Clanton is followed by sophomore Candace Schepperle (69-76-72-217), who shot an even par 72 and finished the tournament in 15th. Senior Margaret Shirley (72-77-74-223) came in 36th after shooting a 2-over 74 on Sunday, while freshman Sarah Thead (76-77-77-230) finished at 66th with a 5-over 77 in round three. Sophomore Marisa Milligan (77-83-74-234) shot a 2-over 74 to complete the tournament at 77th.

Competing as an individual, junior Mariana Macias (72-75-77-224) completed the tournament in 42nd after shooting a 5-over 77.

Auburn continues play at the NCAA Fall Preview on Sept. 24-26 in Albuquerque, N.M.
