Auburn Cross Country To Compete At Bulldog Stampede

Sept. 22, 2007

ATHENS, Ga. - Auburn's cross country teams will run in their second meet of the season on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Bulldog Stampede. The University of Georgia Golf Course will be the location of the meet. This is the first meet run on this course in four years. The women will have a 5k race beginning at 8 a.m. EST, and the men will follow with a 8k at 8:30 EST.

The men will be looking to gain another victory this week by taking their full roster to Athens.

"We match up favorably with the Georgia team and we are looking for a good competition," said head coach Peter Watson.

On the women's side Auburn will be without its top finisher last week, freshman Hollie Knight, due to an Achilles injury. Knight's injury is not considered serious and she is expected to compete at the Tiger Invitational Sept. 29. Watson expects another freshman to step up in Knight's absence.

"Amber Riley has progressed a lot over the past couple of weeks and we're looking for a good race from her," said Watson.

According to Watson, the course is well-marked with extremely good footing.

"The course has a lot of rolling hills, so we aren't looking to run fast times or PR's but instead we are looking to race and compete very well," Watson said.

The men's team won the team title at their first meet - the UTC Invitational - while the women's finished second at the same meet.
