AUBURN - The Auburn equestrian team opened the season up with a convincing victory over the TCU Horned Frogs 12-6 Friday at the Auburn Equestrian Center.

"It was a good meet for us," said coach Greg Williams. "They brought one of the toughest western teams in the nation and we stayed neck-in-neck with them. We have a strong hunt seat team and we were able to make up the points in that."

In Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences, Auburn prevailed 5-0 as Courtney Schafer, Rebecca Rifkin, Jessica Braswel, Dorothy Grubb and Jenny Reinhart all scored points. Reinhart came away with MVP honors for the event.

In western Horsemanship, TCU beat Auburn 3-1, with Kimberly Tidwell scoring the point for the Tigers.

In Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat, Auburn won 3-1, getting points from Chelsea Anheuser, Coburn Park and Alexandra Loprete, who was given the MVP distinction.

Auburn won the Western Reining Competition as Lindsey Jordan, Julie Gibbs and Paige Monfore all picked up points for the Tigers. Auburn won the event 3-1 and Jordan was named MVP.

Auburn suffered a scare the horse Lindsey Jordan was riding slipped and fell during warm-ups. She continued to ride, earning Western Reining MVP honors, but was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. It is not known whether she will be able to ride next week.

Auburn's next home meet is September 29 when Auburn takes on defending national champion South Carolina. Admission is free. For additional info, please contact Drew Crowson (334) 844-9800
