Stephanie Fransoso and Gabi Rivera each scored their first goals of the season and Auburn held Louisiana-Lafayette to just seven shots total as the Auburn soccer team posted a 2-0 victory on Sunday at the AU Soccer Complex. The win improved Auburn's record to 4-2-1 while Louisiana-Lafayette dropped to 4-4-1.
"Our girls did a great job of running hard on a hot day and it was a great result for us," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "Stephanie and Gabi made great plays to score a pair of solid goals to give us the 2-0 win."
Fransoso got the Tigers on the board in the 55th minute as she collected a pass from Jaime Wheeler at the top of the 18 and fired a shot that deflected off of a ULL defender and into the far corner of the net.
"Jaime had a great assist," Fransoso said. "She passed it through a jumbled mess and I just took a shot."
Rivera made it a two-goal game with her first goal of the season on a one-touch pass from Caitlin King at the top of the six in the 74th minute. King held possession of the ball on the far side of the 18 after Jenn Johnson brought it up the far sideline before sending the waist-high cross to Rivera.
"I saw Caitlin get the ball and Becca (Howell) made a good near-post run. Caitlin just had a great cross and I was there to finish it," Rivera said.
The Auburn defense posted its second straight shutout and held both ULL and Friday's opponent, Samford, to just 13 total shots (eight on frame).
"Coming off two hard-fought wins over the weekend helps a ton," Hoppa said. "We have built a good amount of confidence and are really playing well right now. You always want to go into conference play on a roll."
Auburn returns to the field on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7pm in the SEC opener against Kentucky.
