Albuquerque, N.M. - Freshman Sarah Thead shot even par 73 during round two at the Margaret Moses Branch Fall Preview held at the par 73, 6,351-yard UNM Championship Course. As a team, Auburn fired 7-over 299 and is tied for 10th with one day remaining in Albuquerque.
After two rounds, the seventh-ranked Tigers (298-299--597) are tied for 10th with fourth-ranked Oklahoma State. Third-ranked Duke retained its lead after shooting 6-under. Eighth-ranked Southern California trails the Blue Devils by four strokes and is followed by second-ranked Arizona State.
Thead tallied four birdies on the day to lead all Tigers at even par. The newcomer is tied for 44th overall. Freshman Candace Schepperle opened with a birdie and was even through the first 10 holes. Schepperle stayed a 1-under through the 12th hole before bogeying three times to finish the day. Schepperle finished at 2-over 75 and is tied for 69th. Also shooting 2-over 75 was junior Mariana Macias. Macias had four birdies, but also had five bogey's or worse and finds herself tied for 39th.
Freshman Cydney Clanton fired 3-over 76. Clanton opened with two double bogey's or worse, but rebounded with three straight birdies on eight, nine and 10. Clanton leads all Tiger competitors in the individual race as she is tied for 31st.
Senior Margaret Shirley had six bogey's on the first nine holes and finished the day at 7-over 80. The senior is currently tied for 51st.
Southern Cal's Dewi Claire Schreefel is the overall leader after shooting 4-under today. Pepperdine's Taylore Karle is one stroke out of the lead, while Arizona's Alison Walshe is two strokes away from the top.
Auburn will tee off of hole 10 on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. MT.
