Gabi Rivera threaded a pass between a pair of Troy defenders and Ashley Marks did the rest, faking out the Troy goalkeeper before burying a shot from inside the six-yard box in the 77th minute as Auburn outlasted Troy, 1-0, on Friday night at the Auburn Soccer Complex.

"We had a counter attack and Gabi slipped the ball through the two backs and I just got through and put it past the keeper on the far post," Marks said.

The Tigers (1-1-1) controlled most of the game, taking 20 shots, including 13 on frame that Troy keeper Karla Smith made saves on.

"We played great possession, but obviously finishing is an issue," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "We dominated possession and took a ton of great shots. You have to give a lot of credit to the Troy goalkeeper who played outstanding and made some great saves. We are thankful that Ashley put one in there late in the game to seal the win for us."

Auburn really pressured Troy (2-2-0) late in the game, taking 12 shots and forcing three of their four corners in the second half.

Caitlin King led Auburn with six shots, five on frame, while Rivera and Kara Kasten each took three.

Allison Whitworth faced just four shots in the game for Auburn, making a save on the only ball on goal.

Auburn returns to the field on Sunday at 1pm CT when it plays host to Pittsburgh.
