COLUMBIA, S.C. - Newcomer Alex Petropoulos advanced to the Round of 16 Saturday at the South Carolina Tennis Invitational while also teaming with Hunter Mills for a pair of doubles victories.
Petropoulos and Mills are the only Tigers competing this weekend at the three-day tournament.
Petropoulos defeated Dilshod Sharifi in his opening-round match, 6-4, 6-4. He will play Javier Rodriguez Saturday morning.
Mills lost his opening match, 6-3, 6-2 to Brandon Joost. Mills will play Taylor Ferrier in the consolation bracket.
The duo paired up for a couple victories in the doubles bracket. Mills and Petropoulos downed Damien Cordesse and Carlos Marques, 8-2 in their first match. They went on to beat Ferrier and Josh Ray, 9-8 (1) in their second match and will play Thomas Bellman and Soloman Steffen on Saturday in the semifinals.
