Knoxville, Tenn. - The ninth-ranked Auburn women's golf team moved one spot to fifth place after firing a 12-over 296 in second round action at the UT Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship on Saturday. Freshman Cydney Clanton is tied for fourth after shooting 1-under 70.
The Tigers find themselves 11 strokes out of the top spot, which is held by Florida (289-288--577). Purdue (291-291--582) and Arkansas (285-297--582) are tied for second. Alabama's Kathleen Ekey continues to hold the top spot in the individual race. Ekey shot a 1-under 70 today. Florida's Sandra Gal and Stacy Lewis both fired even par 71 and are tied for second.
Clanton led the Tigers in the second round, shooting 1-under 70. She had four birdies on the day and looked to finish at 3-under, but back-to-back bogeys to finish play were the difference. Clanton is tied for fourth.
Margaret Shirley fired 2-over 73 and is tied for 32nd, while Candace Schepperle is tied for 20th after shooting 3-over 74. Abigale Schepperle is tied for 37th (79) and Mariana Macias is tied for 89th (81). Competing as an individual, Sarah Thead is tied for 62nd (76).
The Tigers tee off at 8:45 a.m. CT on Sunday in the final round of play in Knoxville. Auburn will be playing with Virginia and Denver. Live stats are available at www.golfstat.com
