allowed a Florida goal just 44 seconds into the second half and was not able to match Florida's attack on the night as the No. 25 Auburn soccer team lost at Florida, 2-0, on Friday night in Gainesville.
"Florida is a great team and they have played really good soccer all year," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "I think home-field played a part in it and we gave up a few goals that we don't normally give up."
Florida (8-4-2, 4-2-0 SEC) netted the game-winning goal just 44 seconds after intermission to break a scoreless tie. KeLeigh Hudson was the culprit for the Gators, putting in a floater that had the look of a cross from 12 yards out over the arms of a leaping and retreating Allison Whitworth for the 1-0 UF lead.
Florida made it 2-0 late in the 52nd minute when Stacy Bishop headed in an Ameera Abdullah corner for her fourth goal of the season.
Florida dominated the game statistically, taking 19 shots to Auburn's six and attempting 10 corners to none for Auburn, all of which added up to Auburn's (9-4-1, 5-2-0 SEC) fourth loss of the season and second of the conference season.
Allison Whitworth, the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Week, made nine saves in the match, equaling her season-high done twice before.
Florida' goal snapped Auburn's scoreless streak at 315:44.
Auburn will stay on the road this weekend, traveling to Columbia, S.C., for a 2pm ET match against South Carolina on Sunday.
