South Carolina scored just 7:33 into the match and held off the No. 25 Auburn attack for the next 82 minutes as Auburn fell, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped Auburn's record to 9-5-1, 5-3-0 SEC while South Carolina improved to 12-4-1, 4-3-1 SEC.

"South Carolina is a good team and they scored a good goal that our defense misplayed, and that was our mistake," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "We had some opportunities and played a better second half, but it's tough to give a team a goal lead and have to chase on the road, but that's what we did. It was more of a game of missed opportunities for us than anything they did."

South Carolina scored the only goal of the match when Darcel Mollon controlled the ball on the Auburn side of the center circle and after a few dribbles sliced a pass through the Auburn defense to Erin Sullivan. Sullivan then beat Allison Whitworth one-on-one for her seventh goal of the season.

Whitworth kept Auburn in the game with a couple of beautiful saves in the second half. Just six minutes after intermission, Whitworth made a diving stop to her left as Mollon had her one-on-one with a chance to put USC up by two. She was up to the task again just seven minutes later when Danila Monteiro had a clear shot from eight yards out only to have Whitworth slide to her right for another big save.

Whitworth finished the match with eight saves on 14 shots.

Auburn returns to the AU Soccer Complex for its' final home match of the season on Thursday at 7pm CT when Georgia visits the Plains.
