Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The Auburn women's golf team shot 9-over 293 to conclude the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate in second place, improving three spots from Saturday. Freshman Cydney Clanton turned in her third top-five finish of the season as she tied for fourth.
Arkansas took the team title as it finished a mere eight strokes ahead of Auburn (295-300-291--886). Auburn (301-300-293--894) finished ahead of Florida (307-300289--896) and 15 other teams. The Lady Razorbacks also earned the individual title as Stacy Lewis took the win, 68-76-69--213, two strokes ahead of Notre Dame's So-Hyun Park (73-72-70--215).
Clanton, a native of Concord, N.C., continued to shine this season as she turned in her third top-five finish in the five fall tournaments. Clanton started the day on hole 4 and shot even par for nine holes before a birdie on 13. She had another birdie on 16 and her only bogey of the day on 18, but capped off the day with back-to-back birdies on one and two and even par on three to finish a 3-under 68. She tied with Louisville's Stefanie Kenoyer.
Two other Tigers finished in the top 20 of the 96-person field. Sophomore Candace Schepperle tied for 13th after shooting 3-over 74 (78-72-74--224), while classmate Marisa Milligan tied for 19th (75-76-74--225).
Competing as an individual, freshman Sarah Thead finished 27th (71-80-76--227) and senior Margaret Shirley tied for 28th (77-74-77--228). The Tigers competed with a depleted lineup as senior Abigale Schepperle did not compete on Saturday or Sunday due to an injury.
Auburn concludes the fall season next week, Nov. 4-6, at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play in Orlando, Fla.
