Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Auburn women's golf team shot an improved 5-over 293 in the second round of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers moved to sixth in the field of 18 with one day remaining at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Junior Mariana Macias leads all Tiger competitors as she is currently tied for 11th after firing an even par 72. Macias shot three birdies on the back nine to finish strong. Freshman Cydney Clanton shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 15th.
Senior Margaret Shirley had the best second round of all Tiger golfers as she shot a 1-under 71. She had three birdies on the day, two of which were on the back nine. She maintained her 1-under performance after the birdie on 14. She is tied for 46th.
Sisters Abigale and Candace Schepperle are both tied for 60th. C. Schepperle fired a 4-over 76, but was even after the front nine. After double bogeying 10, she sat a 2-over and with the addition of bogeys on 14 and 17, she ended at 76. A. Schepperle shot 9-over 81, committing eight bogeys or worse.
Tennessee leads the team race (297-289--586) and is followed by Duke (302-287--589) and Georgia (298-293--591). Duke's Amanda Blumenherst leads all individuals after firing 4-under 68 (71-68--139). Georgia's Alina Lee (74-68--142) and Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary (71-71--142) are tied for second.
Auburn will finish the Lady Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday as the Tigers begin play at 8:15 a.m. CT with Wake Forest and N.C. State.
