Nov. 11, 2007

Athens, Ga. -- The Auburn Equestrian team was handed its first loss of the season as the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Tigers 12-6.

Georgia won three events and the two teams tied in the fourth. Paige Monfore won the MVP award in reining for the Tigers, their only MVP award of the day. This is the first time Auburn has lost this year, moving their record to 3-1.

"I think our girls rode well," coach Greg Williams said. "We always wish that we could have different outcomes. Reiners were the strong suit on the western end and I think it was pretty close on the hunt seat. It was a good meet. This will be a good match up in the spring and we will be two good teams in the postseason."

In equitation over fences, Auburn received points from Dottie Grubb and Jessica Braswell. Auburn also received points in equitation on the flat from Coburn Park and Chelsea Anheuser. In reining, Paige Monfore scored a point for Auburn and won the MVP award with a score of 77.5.

This is the first time Auburn has faced Georgia this season, the two teams will meet again in the spring and again at the Southern Equestrian Championships. Auburn comes home to face Kansas State on Nov. 17.
