Kissimmee, Fla. - The sixth-ranked Auburn women's golf team concluded the fall season Monday afternoon at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play at the Ginn Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla. Auburn fell to Georgia in a tiebreaker in the second round and was edged out by Alabama 3-2 in the consolation third round.
Second round action resumed early Monday morning after being suspended Sunday because of darkness. Third-seeded Auburn and sixth-seeded Georgia took it to a tiebreaker. Marisa Milligan and Mariana Macias both won 1-up. Milligan defeated Mallory Hetzel, while Macias beat Alina Lee. Cydney Clanton battled it out with Garrett Phillips for 18 holes before halving their match.
Carolina Andrade got past Candace Schepperle 4 and 3, while Krystle Caithness put away Margaret Shirley 5 and 3.
Auburn moved on to the consolation bracket and faced 10th-seeded Alabama. Shirley and Macias picked up wins for Auburn. Shirley won 2 and 1 over Laura Goodwin, while Macias got past Rhea Nair by one. Helena Blomberg won 5 and 4 over Marisa Milligan, Camilla Lennarth won 4 and 3 over Cydney Clanton and Kathleen Ekey put away Candace Schepperle 5 and 3.
The Tigers finished tied for seventh with Oklahoma State. Top-seeded Duke and Georgia meet Tuesday in the championship final. Tennessee and Florida will play for the third spot, while Texas A&M and Alabama will battle it out for the fifth position.
