Auburn came back from a 17-point deficit to win its first SEC game of the season in a 74-67 victory at LSU in the Maravich Assembly Center. Sophomore DeWayne Reed scored a career-high 20 points to go along with five assists and three steals to lead Auburn while Frank Tolbert added 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
LSU jumped out to a 17-2 lead six minutes in and led 24-7 lead with 6:26 left in the first half before Auburn began to chip away. Auburn cut it to 10 points with 4:54 left in the half and to 28-26 with two minutes remaining before settling for a 32-28 halftime deficit.
LSU pushed its lead to nine at 43-34 almost seven minutes into the second half before Auburn caught fire again. A 9-0 Auburn run tied it for the first time at 43 with 10:46 to play. There would be a total of eight ties and five lead changes over the next seven minutes.
Auburn took its first lead of the game at 51-49 on a 3-pointer by Lucas Hargrove with 8:54 to go. With LSU leading 61-60 with 3:48 left, Auburn went on the game-deciding 11-0 run.
Reed's 3-pointer from the corner gave Auburn a 67-61 lead with 2:15 left and Quan Prowell made a pair of free throws followed by a Rasheem Barrett layup for a 71-61 Auburn lead with 59 seconds remaining.
Since being down by 17 points, Auburn outscored LSU 67-43 the rest of the way. Auburn shot a torrid 69 percent from the field in the second half, including 56 percent (5-of-9) from 3-point range. Marcus Thornton led LSU with 27 points and Garrett Temple added 17.
