Auburn, Ala. --- The Auburn equestrian team (7-2) defeated Baylor (4-8) 10-7 at the Auburn Equestrian Center Saturday. The Tigers defeated the Bears 6-2 in Hunt Seat, but lost 4-5 in Western.
"We made some improvements in several areas," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "Our young riders are getting collegiate experience that will benefit them later in the season."
Baylor edged Auburn in Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences 2-1 behind MVP Heather Healy, who defeated Anna Schierholz 82-78. Other Bear winners included Kendra Vicary over Katie Breedlove 79-75. Tiger winners included Jessica Braswell over Mary Smitson 77-68. Tying with scores of 80 were Auburn's Dottie Grubb and Baylor's Nicole Brown and of 76 were Auburn's Elise Fraza and Baylor's Beth Bannister.
Auburn swept Baylor in Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat 5-0 behind MVP Rebecca Rifkin, who edged Heather Healy 91-90. Other Tiger winners included Ali Loprete over Mary Smitson 85-77, Coburn Park over Cara Wilson 87-81, Chelsea Anheuser over Shelby White 84-68 and Jenny Reinhart over Nicole Brown 87-79.
Auburn tied Baylor in Western Horsemanship 2-2. Baylor's Nicole McCoy won MVP honors defeating Bailey Dymond 77-72.5. Other Bear winners included Lindsay Douglas over Kylie Miller 76-72.5. Tiger winners included Amy Bohan over Morgan Williams 76.5-65 and Jessica Jones over Allison Orosz 76.5-63.5. Tying with a score of 75 were Auburn's Avery Sams and Baylor's Maggie Griffin.
Baylor edged Auburn in Reining 3-2 behind MVP Katie Buss, who defeated Paige Monfore 71.5-69.5. Other Bear winners included Kim Marlowe over Ashton Fairey 67-66.5 and Nicole McCoy over Kimberly Tidwell 71-68.5. Tiger winners included Lyndsey Jordan over Maddie Mooney 68.5-67 and Julie Gibbes over Valtie Riddle 69-62.
"Overall, it was a good win for us," said Williams. "This win helps us get ready for a tough Oklahoma State team."
Auburn returns to action tomorrow against Oklahoma State Feb. 17 at 9 a.m. CT, at the Auburn Equestrian Center.
