Auburn, Ala. -- The Auburn equestrian team (6-1) defeated Texas A&M 11-9 at the Auburn Equestrian Center Saturday to take the second home meet of the spring. The Tigers defeated the Aggies 6-4 in Western and tied 5-5 in Hunt Seat.
"This was a great win for us," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "Beating the defending National Champions in Western was awesome. I am tickled that our Reiners performed so effectively."
Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences 3-2. Texas A&M's Katie Henion won MVP honors defeating Dottie Grubb 80-73. Tiger winners included Anna Shierholz over Christina Heine 78-75, Jessica Braswell over Kristi Waldal 82-75, and Ali Loprete over Erin Ivy 80-78. Texas A&M's Lindsay Smith defeated Jenny Reinhart 81-70.
Auburn's Jenny Reinhart earned MVP honors in Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat defeating Viviana Cordero 80-71. Texas A&M won the event 3-2. Aggie winners included Lindsey Lawrence over Coburn Park 77-69, Brittney Dodson over Rebecca Rifkin 82-76, and Ashley Soderstrom over Katie Breedlove 87-75. Auburn's Ali Loprete edged Christina Heine 82-81.
Texas A&M won Western Horsemanship 4-1 behind MVP Caroline Gunn, who defeated Amy Bohan 75.5-73.5. Other Aggie winners included Amanda Cushman over Kim Tidwell 73.5-73, Sibyl Parsons over Ashley Milton 74.5-73, and Randi Standley over Jessica Jones 72.5-71.5. Auburn's Kylie Miller edged Christine Sceets 73.5-72.
Auburn swept Texas A&M in Reining 5-0 behind MVP Paige Monfore, who defeated Tara Christiansen 76-74. Other Tiger winners included Julie Gibbes over Randi Standley 73.5-73, Kim Tidwell over Mattie Williams 73-70.5, Lyndsey Jordan over Maggie Gratny 74.5-72.5, and Ashton Fairy over Jena Fishgold 72.5-67.
"Our Hunt Seat rode well, but was too conservative," said Williams. "Our Reiners really picked up the slack. Overall, the girls did a great job to improve our program."
Auburn travels to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. CT.
