No. 15 Auburn Remains In Lead After Round Two Of John Burns Intercollegiate

Feb. 21, 2008

WAHIAWA, Hawaii - Led by junior Glenn Northcutt's second round 66, the No. 15 Auburn men's golf team shot 15-under par on day two of the John Burns Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,916-yard Leilehua Golf Course Thursday. At 25-under, the Tigers (273-551) retained first position after a first round tie with Arizona and San Diego State.

Senior Jay Moseley (70-136), who finished sixth in last year's John Burns, is tied for fifth. Northcutt (66-137) is tied for eighth. Senior Steven Groover (69-140) is tied for 25th, junior Cole Moreland (68-141) is tied for 30th and senior Jamie Bowen is tied for 52nd.

"I'm really proud of Glenn," head coach Mike Griffin said. "He hit two big birdie puts coming down the stretch. Groover birdied two of his last three holes.

"I'm looking at the scoreboard and there's a lot of red up there right now. You usually better go low in the second round out here. That tends to be when everyone really turns it on.

"The weather out here is just perfect - just ideal conditions for golf."

Trailing Auburn is No. 24 UNLV (275-554), Texas A&M (274-555), SMU (277-556), San Diego State (282-560), Arizona (283-661), California (278-562), Fresno State (279-562), Arkansas (279-565), BYU (276-567), UC-Santa Barbara (280-568), UTEP (287-568), Denver (286-572), Long Beach State (284-573), Nevada (283-575), San Diego (280-575), San Jose State (291-579), Hawaii (290-582), New Mexico (292-582), Nagoya (299-586) and Utah (297-588).

Tied for the individual lead are California's Stephen Hale (67-134) and San Diego State's Johan Carlsson (68-134).
