SOUTH BEND, Ind - The men's and women's track and field teams completed competition in the final day of the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame Saturday. Tracy Ann Rowe lead the Tigers in first place by winning the 60m and the 200m.
"We are on track at this point; we had a great team effort and that is what we are looking for," said head coach Ralph Spry. "We have one more meet before the SEC Indoor Championships so we will continue to work hard to improve our times and marks."
Senior Rowe grabbed two first place finishes this weekend, her first of the season. Rowe recorded a NCAA provisional mark of 7.39 to win the 60m. She finished the night with a win in the 200m with a time of 23.81.
Freshman Joanna Atkins placed fourth in the women's 400m, improving her provisional time to 54.03. In the 60m hurdles, sophomore Danielle Gilchrist raced to a seventh place finish in the finals clocking in at 8:48. In the preliminaries Gilchrist recorded a provisional time of 8.40.
The women's 4x400 relay consisting of Amelia Anderson, Joanna Atkins, Latoya Parkinson and DeAngela McDougald saw a second place finish with a provisional time of 3.39.96.
The Tigers had two top 10 finishes on the men's side. Senior Ty Akins raced to a fourth place finish in the 60m Hurdles (7.86). Rueben Mccoy competed in the 400m for the Tigers finishing eighth (48.05).
The Tigers came away from the Meyo Invitational with six qualifying marks for nationals.
The men's and women's track and field team will resume action with split squads next week at the Tyson Invitational, Iowa State Classic, and the Husky Classic.
