Auburn Equestrian Shines Against Fresno State And New Mexico State

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Auburn equestrian (10-2) swept the weekend series against Fresno State (3-4) and New Mexico State (4-4) on Sunday. Auburn defeated Fresno State by virtue of a tiebreaker with 1037-947 raw score after tying 8-8. The Tigers won Hunt Seat 5-3, but lost Western 5-3. The Tigers also defeated New Mexico State 11-4. The Tigers won Hunt Seat 5-3 and Western 6-1.

"New Mexico State was a good win for us," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "We really turned it on in the second half. Against Fresno State, we made some errors early on, but were able to pull out a win."

Auburn tied Fresno State 2-2 in Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences. Fresno State's Jennifer Jory earned MVP honors defeating Ali Loprete 77-75. Other Bulldog winners included Cambria Kissell over Anna Schierholz 79-77. Tiger winners included Jessica Braswell over Katie Nenneker 76-68 and Dottie Grubb over Lisa Wells 70-65.

Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat 3-1 behind MVP Chelsea Anheuser, who defeated Lindsey Blair 70-67. Other Tiger winners included Katie Breedlove over Mallory Hames 61-43 and Rebecca Rifkin over Kelsey Bullock 55-0 (0 refers to a no score because of a penalty). Bulldog winners included Kirstin Sohns over Coburn Park 51-0.

Fresno State won Western Horsemanship 3-1 behind MVP Adriane Smith, who edged Jessica Jones 73.5-72.5. Other Bulldog winners included Rebecca Flood over Kim Pope 73-69.5 and Asheline Beeson over Avery Sams 71.5-70.5. Tiger winners included Kylie Miller over Danielle Escover 72.5-72.

Auburn tied Fresno State 2-2 in Reining. Auburn's Lyndsey Jordan earned MVP honors defeating Marybeth Brown 72.5-0. Other Tiger winners included Ashton Fairey over Elizabeth Thomasian 71.5-71. Bulldog winners included Jillian Tebbe over Paige Monfore 66-56.5 and Keri Blackledge over Julie Gibbes 70-68.

Auburn tied New Mexico State 2-2 in Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences. Auburn's Chelsea Anheuser earned MVP honors defeating Jennifer Friend 82-73. Other Tiger winners included Jessica Braswell over Beth Robinson 84-63. Aggie winners included Sarah Suazo over Anna Schierholz 71-50 and Meg Keeley over Dottie Grubb 69-50.

Auburn won Western Horsemanship 3-1 behind MVP Avery Sams, who defeated Rachael Krause 72.5-68. Other Tiger winners included Kim Pope over Kelli Younker 71-68.5 and Jessica Jones over Codi Binkerd 72-63.5. Aggie winners included Bryn Wells over Kylie Miller 72-70.5.

Auburn won Reining 3-0 behind MVP Lyndsey Jordan, who defeated Kelli Younker 71-69. Other Tiger winners included Paige Monfore over Ashley Dietz 69.5-69 and Ashton Fairey over Bryn Wells 61-59. Tying with a score of 68.5 were Auburn's Julie Gibbes and New Mexico State's Rachael Krause.

"Overall, we rode well as a team and had a great weekend," said Williams. "Getting wins on the road is hard, but we were able to do it."

Auburn rides at home against Georgia March 7 and against Stephen F. Austin March 8. Both meets will be at 1 p.m. CT at the Auburn Equestrian Center. The meets are open to the public and admission is free.
