No. 8 Women's Golf Tied For Fifth After First Round Of Liz Murphey Classic

Athens, Ga. - The eighth-ranked Auburn women's golf team opened play at the Liz Murphey Classic on Friday, carding a 15-over 303. The Tigers are currently tied for fifth with two rounds remaining at the par-72, 6,335-yard UGA Golf Course.

Two Tigers are in the top-25 with Candace Schepperle leading the way in a tie for third. Schepperle was 1-over after the first 17 holes, finishing with a birdie on No. 18 to come in at even-par.

Cydney Clanton is tied for 23rd, carding a 4-over 76. Abigale Schepperle (77) is tied for 32nd, Mariana Macias (78) is tied for 41st and Margaret Shirley (79) is tied for 47th.

Competing individually, Sarah Thread shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 11th.

No. 23 LSU carded a 9-over 297 and is followed by Alabama (302), No. 11 Georgia (302) and No. 7 Purdue (302) in a three-way tie for second. Auburn is tied for fifth with No. 18 Kent State (303), followed by No. 10 Arkansas (305), No. 17 Tennessee (309), No. 13 Wake Forest (309), No. 1 Duke (314), Virginia (314), Central Florida (315), South Carolina (316), No. 22 Vanderbilt (316), Florida State (317), Texas A&M (317), Furman (318) and Kentucky (339).

LSU's Megan McChrystal (69) is in the lead followed by Central Florida's Stephanie Connelly (71) and Candace Schepperle (72).

Second round action begins Satuday morning as the Tigers tee off with Duke and Georgia at 9:40 am CST. Live results will be available at www.golfstat.com.
