No. 33 Auburn Tops No. 73 Marshall 6-1

Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn women's tennis team defeated the Thundering Herd of Marshall 6-1, sweeping all three doubles matches and winning five-of-six singles matches.

"Our team gave a very solid effort today," said Auburn head coach Tim Gray. "Marshall is a very solid team and better than their ranking indicates. From top to bottom we took care of business today. Everybody was engaged mentally and physically, and that's what we need on Friday's and Sunday's in this league."

Junior Whitney Chappell won Auburn's first singles point on court four. She topped Isabell Raich 6-2, 6-1. Melissa Koning earned Auburn's second singles point on court three with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Jean Schwartz.

Junior Alex Haney clinched the match for the Tigers on court two with her 6-3, 6-2, win over Karolina Soor. Fani Chifchieva won Auburn's fifth point on court one, extending her singles win-streak to 16 victories. Sophomore Jil Hastenrath won Auburn's final point with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court five.

The Tigers will resume conference action on Friday, March 28, in Knoxville, Tenn., when they face the Tennessee Volunteers. Auburn will remain on the road on Sunday, March 30, in Athens, Ga., to face off with the Georgia Bulldogs.
