Brown Summit, N.C. - Auburn improved to third place after firing 15-over 303 on the second day of competition at the Bryan National Collegiate in Brown Summit, N.C. Freshman Cydney Clanton jumped 18 places and is tied for fifth after shooting even par 72 today.
Clanton opened with a birdie on four and only carded three bogeys on the day. Clanton found herself a 2-over 74 entering the final three holes, but birdies on one and three put her at even par. Clanton is in a three-way tie for fifth.
Senior Margaret Shirley jumped three spots and is tied for eighth. Shirley shot another round of 2-over 74, carding a birdie on 13 and bogeys on seven, 15 and 16.
Sophomore Candace Schepperle improved one position as is tied for 41st. Schepperle shot 5-over 77. Junior Mariana Macias is tied for 47th after shooting 8-over 80. Freshman Sarah Thead is tied for 54th after firing 11-over 83.
No. 1 Duke remained the leader after shooting 16-over 304 (598). No. 5 Florida trails the Blue Devils by one stroke (599) after carding a 13-over 301. Auburn is six strokes off the top position. Furman is in fourth (605), followed by Arkansas (607) and Virginia (607), who are tied for fifth.
Stacy Lewis is the individual leader after carding another under par round. She shot 3-under 69 today and is at 139 for the two days. Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and College of Charleston's Steffi Kirchmayr are tied for second at 143. Jennie Arseneault of Virginia is fourth (146), while Clanton and two others are tied for fifth.
Auburn will conclude the tournament at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday and will be playing with Florida and Duke.
