Auburn's Chifchieva Advances to Round of 32 at NCAA's

Tulsa, Okla. - Auburn sophomore Fani Chifchieva defeated Beier Ko of Harvard in the first round of the Women's NCAA Individual Singles Championship Wednesday.

Chifchieva, who is now 24-2 in singles action, defeated Ko 6-3, 7-5, to advance to the round of 32 at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. She will face Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday.

"Today was a good day for Fani," said Auburn head coach Tim Gray. "She was extremely focused and played very smart. We hope to see Alex (Haney) and Melissa (Koning) follow suit in doubles tomorrow."

Auburn's No. 14 ranked doubles duo of Haney and Koning will face off with Elizabeth Ferris and Emily Kwok of Utah on Thursday. The pair is 16-3 this season and looks to get their fourth postseason win.
