AUBURN - The Auburn equestrian team defeated Fresno State 14-4 at the Auburn Equestrian Center Friday in the season opener. The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 6-3 in Hunt Seat and 8-1 in Western.
"It was a really good win," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "We had some areas that I felt like might be a little shaky that we're going to work on and tighten up, but when you have solid wins like that you feel good. It's something we can build upon."
Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences 3-1. Fresno State's Jennifer Jory earned MVP honors defeating Dottie Grubb 86-80. Tiger winners included Anna Schierholz over Casey Jo McDonald 83-77, Jessica Braswell over Lisa Wells 81-78 and Jenny Reinhart over Cambria Kissell 89-86. Tying with a score of 82 were Auburn's Elise Fraza and Fresno State's Katie Nenneker.
Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat 3-2 behind MVP Ali Loprete, who defeated Emily McNeil 91-71. Other Tiger winners included Rebecca Rifkin over Kimberly Hewson-Budnik 84-83 and Maggie McAlary over Tarynn Shada 87-75. Bulldog winners included Kelsey Bullock over Katie Breedlove 82-81 and Caitlin Marshall over Annie Boheler 77-0 (0 refers to a no score because of a penalty).
Auburn won Western Horsemanship 3-1 behind MVP Jessica Jones, who defeated Adrianne Smith 71.5-0. Other Tiger winners included Amy Bohan over Madison Silver 70.5-69.5 and Kylie Miller over Asheline Beeson 71-70. Bulldog winners included Rebecca Flood over Bailey Dymond 70-69.5. Tying with a score of 68.5 were Auburn's Mary Casey and Fresno State's Allie Warkentin.
Auburn swept Fresno State in Western Reining 5-0 behind MVP Kelsey George, who defeated Elizabeth Thomasian 71-66.5. Other Tiger winners included Paige Monfore over Jill Tebbe 70-0, Ashton Fairey over Keri Blackledge 69.5-66.5, Lyndsey Jordan over Shellie Dalluge 70.5-67 and Kim Pope over Haley Henderson 69-67.5.
Auburn travels to Blythewood, S.C., to face conference rival South Carolina Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. CT.
