AUBURN - Katy Frierson evened the score, but Auburn was unable to move ahead as Ole Miss defeated the Tigers 3-1 in a Friday night Southeastern Conference showdown. Auburn slips to 5-5-2, 1-1-1 SEC, while the Rebels moved to 4-5-2, 2-1-0 SEC.

"Ole Miss made some great plays, more than we did, and really that was the bottom line tonight," head soccer coach Karen Hoppa said. "That's how they scored goals. We certainly had our chances, but we have to make more plays."

Auburn and Ole Miss exchanged shots in the game's opening six minutes, but it was the Rebels who got on the board first on a Taylor Cunningham goal.

Frierson evened the score 1-1 at the 26:05 mark off of Becca Howell's and Gabi Rivera's dual assist. Frierson has three goals in her freshman campaign.

"We got the one good goal and I thought we were going to get control back in the game," Hoppa said. "Ole Miss made two great plays to get the two goal lead and we didn't make those plays."

Seven minutes outside of halftime, Cunningham knocked in her second goal to put Ole Miss up 2-1.

The momentum of Cunningham's late first-half goal carried over as the Rebels went in for a shot five minutes into the half only to have Auburn's Allison Whittworth make the save.

A back-and-forth battle ensued as both teams worked to get into position, but it was Kelsey Breathitt's goal at the 64:04 mark that clinched the game for Ole Miss.

Auburn took two more shots and had three opportunities to capitalize on corner kicks as time ticked away, but was unable to find the back of the net.

The Tigers will be back in action Sunday to face Mississippi State at 2 p.m. at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
