JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Auburn men's tennis team wrapped up the North Florida Fall Tennis Invitational Sunday with a doubles team in the finals for the second straight tournament.
Alex Stamchev and Milan Krnjetin defeated Jordi Ballester and Francisco Riveroll of Jacksonville University in the semifinal round Sunday morning, 8-3, to advance to the final match of the A draw.
Auburn was forced to withdraw from competition because of an illness making Georgia State's Joris De Weerdt and Matthew Sands the default champions.
Newcomer Powell Porter also won his first match of the day Sunday in the singles consolation B draw. Porter came from behind to defeat Yannick Jackson, 2-6, 6-2, 11-9.
In the quarterfinal round Porter looked strong in the first set but was overcome in the later sets, falling to North Florida's Edgar Graham, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
The Auburn men's tennis team returns to action Oct. 24-26 with the team traveling to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Crimson Tide Fall Classic.
