Back Nine Continues To Haunt Auburn At The Ridges

Oct. 25, 2008

The Auburn men's golf team (299-594) fell from seventh to 12th place after losing nine strokes to the back nine at the par-72, 7,147-yard Ridges Golf Club on Saturday.

Junior Cole Moreland (77-148) and true freshman Kyle Kopsick (76-148) are tied for 31st. Senior Glenn Northcutt (74-151) and redshirt freshman Rossen Anderson (76-151) are tied for 48th while redshirt freshman Cory Gilmer (73-152) is tied for 52nd.

Through two rounds at the Ridges, Auburn is 1-over par on holes one through nine. The back nine has been much less cordial to the Tigers, claiming three triple and four double bogies.

"I think tomorrow we'll get paired on the back side and get off it early," said head coach Mike Griffin. "We really didn't do well on the birdie holes. We just can't get on top of them. We've played the tough holes better.

"For the most part, except for a triple on 17, we've played the tough holes on the back well. We're just not giving ourselves the cushion we need."

Wake Forest (285-576) is in the lead followed by East Tennessee State (290-578), Coastal Carolina (288-578), Ole Miss (288-580), NC State (295-585), Missouri (293-588), Vanderbilt (291-588), UAB (297-590), No. 7 Tennessee (292-591), North Carolina (294-593), Virginia (293-593), Auburn (299-594), Kent State (288-598) and Ohio State (296-599).

NC State's Darren Blair (69-140) holds the individual lead followed by Coastal Carolina's Zack Byrd (70-141) and Dan Obremski (69-141).

The Tigers will tee off Sunday at 9 am EST with Virginia and North Carolina from the back nine.
