Tigers Make the Most of Moving Day; Tied for Sixth

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 14 Auburn's women's golf team moved up three spots to a tie for sixth on the second day of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational after posting an 8-over-296 Saturday at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.

"We saw improvement, but not enough," head women's golf coach Kim Evans said. "We look forward to moving up more tomorrow. Cydney Clanton and Patricia Sanz came back big for us today."

No. 23 Wake Forest occupies the top spot with a 291--585 with third-ranked North Carolina and eighth-ranked Virginia tied for second at 297--596 and 302--596, respectively. No. 20 Louisville is fourth (300--601) with No. 6 Vanderbilt (300--601) at fifth. Tied for sixth are Auburn (296--604) and Texas A&M (303--604), followed by Kent State (300--608), Ohio State (305--612) and NC State (302--614) and No. 21 Michigan (305--614) are tied at 10th to round out the top 10.

Central Florida is 12th at 306--615, with No. 19 South Carolina (307--617), Furman (303--618), Kentucky (308--620), No. 15 Florida State (320--626), No. 4 Tulsa (319--630) and North Carolina-Greensboro (321--645) round out the 18-team tournament field.

Sophomore All-American Cydney Clanton and freshman Patricia Sanz made the most of moving day by each carding a 2-under-70 to climb into a tie for 12th after entering the day tied for 45th. Clanton notched three birdies on the front nine and added a pair on the back nine. She bogeyed No. 12 and double bogeyed No. 16, but was able to maintain the sub-par round.

Sanz picked up birdies on Nos. 3 and 9 and added another on No. 16. Her only bogey came on No. 15. Sanz's 2-under-70 is the lowest of the freshman's career.

Sarah Thead knocked four strokes off of her first round score by recording a 4-over-76 and is tied for 52nd.

Candace Schepperle posted an 8-over-80 and slipped into a tie for 30th after starting the day tied for sixth. Marinia Macias tallied a16-over-88 and is 90th.

Sunday's final round will be a 10:15 a.m CT shotgun start and the Tigers will be paired with Kent State and Ohio State from No. 6.

The Tigers are paired with Kent State and Ohio State on Saturday and will tee off from No. 1 at 9 a.m.
