Nov. 23, 2008

ATLANTA - Auburn's Dan Mazzaferro and Kelly Marx finished first and third, respectively, on the platform Sunday during the final session of the Georgia Tech Diving Invitational at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

"It was an excellent competition, Dan, Kelly and Reuben Ross battled back and forth all day," said Auburn diving coach Jeff Shaffer. "We had some excellent scores for the fall, and Kelly was able to learn a new dive while we have been in Atlanta, one that will really improve his opportunity to score."

Mazzaferro took the platform title with a 400.80, edging out Miami's Reuben Ross who finished second with a 400.30. Marx slipped in at third place with a score of 391.75.

"It was a great meet for us to see where we are in our training and what we need to work on," said Shaffer. "I am very impressed with the progress we are making so far."

Auburn's divers return to action Dec. 18-20 as the Tigers host their own diving invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
