ROCKY FACE, Georgia - Auburn (301-597) slipped seven spots to 17th following a 13-over second round at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, held the par 72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club on Saturday.
Senior Glenn Northcutt (76-145) leads all Tigers in a tie for 18th. Freshman John Stembridge (74-151) and senior Keith White are tied for 60th. Freshman Kyle Kopsick (79-153) is tied for 72nd and junior Cole Moreland is tied for 82nd.
"Last year in the second round we moved up," said head coach Mike Griffin. "Today we moved but it was in the wrong direction. We were very inconsistent. Our two seniors didn't get the job done.
"I'm very pleased with John (Stembridge) shooting a 74. This course really challenges you. The youngsters had a little trouble but we'll see how they react tomorrow."
No. 12 UT-Chattanooga (283-574) is in the lead followed by No. 14 East Tennessee State (290-577), No. 7 Clemson (287-578), No. 22 Tennessee (288-582), No. 1 Georgia (286-585), No. 30 Ole Miss (295-585), No. 13 South Carolina (291-585), No. 15 Wake Forest (290-586), UAB (289-588), No. 6 Florida (285-289), Central Florida (301-590), No. 17 Texas Tech (293-591), No. 26 North Carolina (291-591), No. 20 Alabama (297-592), No. 10 Georgia Tech (295-594), No. 28 Mississippi State (295-594), Auburn (301-597) and Georgia State (297-605).
"A good round tomorrow can move us back into the top-10. If we can come out of this tournament beating half of the field, I'll feel good about it.
"We are playing a bunch of youngsters. I like the way they are fighting and not giving up."
Clemson's Kyle Stanley (66-139) is currently atop the individual leader board followed by Georgia Tech's David Dragoo (69-141), UTC's Stephan Jaeger (71-141), Tennessee's Chris Paisley (72-141) and UAB's Zach Sucher (71-141).
Auburn begins third round action from the back nine, teeing off with Mississippi State and Georgia State at 8 am EST.
