2009 Indoor Season Underway For Auburn Track And Field Athletes

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Auburn men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2009 indoor season with a light opening day of action at the Kentucky Invitational . The Tigers had three women and three men competing in field events during Friday's competition.

Freshman Ryan Fleck finished third in the high jump in his collegiate debut, clearing 2.04m (6-8.25) on his first attempt, earning the tie breaker for third over two others that also cleared 2.04m.

In the men's weight throw, freshman Wesley Wright finished 19th with a mark of 15.44m (50-8), while junior Eric Werskey was 20th with a throw of 14.54m (47-8.5).

In the women's pole vault, sophomore Brittany Mattrella was 12th with a mark of 3.40m (11-1.75), while senior Megan Hill tied for 14th by clearing 3.10m (10-2). Sophomore Erika Akins finished 16th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.13m (36-6.25).

Competition at the Kentucky Invitational will conclude with running events and the remaining field events Saturday.
